SEASONAL ASSISTANT CURATOR -

The position provides summer support in the operation of a small museum in the Town of Millet, Alberta, of under 2100 residents, 40 minutes south of Edmonton for an accredited award-winning Alberta museum, archives, and visitor information center. A charity board of directors and two full-time staff members operate the facility with potentially four Museum Assistants Students.

Duration - April 29-August 30, 2024 (subject to change, pending funding)

Hours - 40 hours/ week including scheduled Saturdays

Wage –$15.50 per hour and 4% holiday pay

Description of duties:

  • Contribute to providing professional customer service as well as self-motivated.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of successful summer services and programs for school groups, group tours and individual tourists.
  • Exceptional communication ability in speaking and writing English.
  • Supply a Police record Check to work with the vulnerable sector of children/seniors.
  • Use professional standards to complete collection documentation, permanent numbering, digital photography or scanning within a collection management database while maintaining daily preservation techniques of light, humidity and pest management.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 20 kg to be able to weed and water the grounds and move collections.
  • Compile documentation of photographs and project information to be able to provide tourists with enhanced cultural visibility, encourage them to stay longer, and impact the economics of Millet and Alberta
  • Increase community awareness through the production of a temporary summer exhibit.
  • Assist with maintaining Facebook, Instagram, and website and increase engagements.
  • Research of chronological history, and Communities in Bloom heritage environment.
  • Arrange and file paper and electronic documents of the organization.

All candidates hired must:

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, as per funding organization requirements.
  • Complete a Candidate Eligibility Form.
  • Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment and not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with CSJ
